01Identity

Deimos in Greek tradition

Ares fathered Deimos with Aphrodite while she was married to Hephaestus. Deimos represented Terror and embodied the fearsome effects of war. Through Ares, he descended from Zeus and Hera, because Ares was their son. He belonged with the dreadful forces associated with Ares and the brutal violence of battle. Alongside Phobos, who represented Fear, Deimos gave a name and form to an emotion associated with war. He had no separate myth in which he acted as the main figure. He appeared as a figure linked to the terror and violence of warfare.
