Doris in Greek tradition
Fifty Nereid nymphs trace their parentage to Doris and the sea god Nereus. Doris is a sea nymph and one of the Oceanids, the daughters of the Titan god Oceanus and his sister Tethys. Her nature is therefore linked to both the sea and the Oceanids.
Doris belongs to the family of Nereus and serves mainly as the mother of the Nereids. Among her daughters are Amphitrite, Thetis and Galatea. Amphitrite became the wife of Poseidon and the mother of Triton. Thetis became the mother of Achilles. Galatea was loved by the Cyclops Polyphemus. Doris has no separate myth in these passages as a central figure. Her place is in the ancestry of the Nereids and in the sea-god family formed with Nereus.
